new to this forum so please excuse any errors.

i need information on a thread size for a clamp bolt on my myford ml8 which my kids managed to lose around the garden somewhere.

the item is myford part number c1036 "clamp bolt" shown as item number 71 in the bottom left of the attached picture

myford2.jpg

it is the bolt that secures the outboard toolpost to the slotted banjo shaped arm

i have the nut but cannot find a male thread that will fit the nut in order to measure the tread size. if anyone has the ability to measure this bolt from their lathe i would really appreciate their help.

HI Simon
Its probabley 5/16 bsf, my ML8 is away in Somerset so I cannot be sure but this might be a pointer until someone measures theirs, best of luck.

regards

Paul

thanks for the advice and offers of help so far, i should have outlined my plans in the original post.

if i can get the thread diameter and TPI i can turn something up on my ml7 metal lathe from a suitably sized coach screw. if i cant get the thread size from somewhere then i will be re-threading or remaking the nut with a suitable metric thread.

having tried every imperial sized thread i can lay my hands on i was beginning to think it might be a myford special; i wonder if they had a dedicated department for conceiving difficult threads.

As i dont have the specialised kit to measure an internal thread i am still hoping to make contact with a ml8 owner who can measure a thread.

As i said its a special thread its like it has been stretched to make it tighten in a quarter of a turn. Make a complete new one using a whitworth thread. I have made loads of them

problem solved thanks for all your helpful suggestions

it was the same thread as the clamp at the other end of the banjo, dont know why i didnt think of looking there in the first place!

it was a triple start thread measuring 20 TPI on a thread gauge ie a pitch of 0.150" with an OD of 0.370"

so after a little stint on the metal lathe i am back to making shavings :)
