Hi all

Anyone got an incra Wonderfence?

I have a chance of one as an add-on for my Incra Ultra 24 and am interested to find out if people found any advantages with the Wonderfence and do they think it worth having?

No one else got one? Surprising.

Really not sure about ths and would value opinions

Tony,

I have one but really only use it as a split fence. I have occasionally used the offsetting ability of the fences for planing an edge on something but very rarely.

I do use the tall fence ability quite a bit but put a piece of MFC in front of everything so that the workpiece encounters no obstructions.

Tony,

I think this is one thing where you are better off making your own, e.g.:

If you ever need to offset the outfeed fence, its so easy just to stick some shims behind it.

Cheers,
Neil

Thanks guys. I think I would be like Chris with the off setting capability, so the splitting, height, and the dust extraction are the main features that interest me.

Like that home-made one Neil. If Ican get some ali at reasonable cost, might go that way.

Tony
I did consider the wonderfence but like Neil (and based on his efforts) I knocked something up which for me works just as well. Dust extraction was my main concern. But it's easy to achieve offsets, zero tolerance and tall fences with some spare MDF and a few shims.

Can you still easily use the right angled sled thingy to cut joints using the templates?
I guess you need to remove your fences and replace the original?

Tony
Yes - I stick my screwdriver through the holes in the front of the fence, loosen the screws and slide it off. I'm then left with the original fence - the homemade fence attaches directly to it. It's pretty straightforward for the amount of times I use the right angle fence.

Yep, similar to Gidon except that my fence attaches with bolts from the back, going into threaded inserts in the (infilled) fence:

Obviously I have to completely unscrew the bolts, take my fence off and screw on the Incra one, so I'm sure Gidon could beat me hands down in a 'swap the fence' race!

Tony It is ideal for using with big router bits, and the risers help secure any wide stock you maybe passing through the cutter. It also is very good at dust extraction, and I sometimes use it for planing the edge of a piece of timber.

IMHO it is a very good option to the Incra. I suppose it all depends on how much you are getting it for and how much you think you will use it over and above your standard fence.

Cheers

Mike

I have one Tony.
Very useful for big cutters. Can even be set for planing cuts if you feel the need.
Extraction is excellent and for taller pieces it works well.
I suppose it is just like all Incra stuff in that everything you do with it is repeatable if you need that.
I like it a lot.

Thanks for all that - off to see Martin's soon, but I am sorely tempted just for the dust collection!

but those who remember a few years back, will know i gained a bit of a reputation for building jigs......

Neil,
where did you source the thick plastic for the faces of your fence?

And does it mill with the router ok?

Gaz

Gaz,

I got it off the Axminster clearance list - unfortunately they only do up to 6mm thickness now (this is 12mm stuff). I guess you could stick two layers together (although being slick plate it doesn't stick too well )

I think Rutlands do it - yep, here you go. Three times the price I paid, though

It machines beautifully - probably the easiest material to machine that I've ever used anyway.

Cheers,
Neil

I have the incra Intellifence attached to my Incra 24 for about 5 years, I would not part with it, it does a fantastic job on my router table
