Aint gotta clue what you've done here George, but i don't think the design matches the wood used on this piece, all looks a bit bland to me. :?
Love the design on the back though :D

Love the reverse side detailing George, and very impressed with the bowl decoration with its sharply defined patterning, let down somewhat for me by the rim which does not appear to display the same quality for some reason.

May just be the photograph not doing it justice on colour spectrum or grain texture of course.

Having given it a second coating of looking at I am really taken with the form of the reverse, simple lines that shout style to me.

I like the shape, but I think the metal leaf decoration is a bit too overwhelming for the rest of the piece. Thinking about it, I think that a much wider rim with a smaller metal leaf bowl area might have worked better.

Hi George,

glad to see you're still using the VB, I was beginning to think you had given up proper turning for pens     !!

It certainly is an interesting effect  ! Perhaps a bit like a bad trip (maaaan  !) - was going to use the word physadelic/cycadelic/sycadelic but found I really don't know how to spell it so gave up with that

Not sure if it works as a complete piece, ie all the elements working together but it certainly catches the eye!! I think I will come back a few times over the next couple of days and see if it grows on me!

Cheers

Richard

Hello George,a nice effect in the bowl part of your platter but the overall look of the piece doesn't seem quite right. There doesn't seem to be enough contrast between the background colour of the decorated centre and the Mahogany. I reckon a small dark border around the bowl part and another one the same near the edge of the rim would sort it right out.

Hi Richard - it's spelt psychedelic (from the Greek and meaning mind manifesting).

thank you for all of your comments

the effect is done by simply applying gold leaf to the bowl- but in this case it wasnt normal gold leaf it was a metal effect leaf
