I Lie Nielsen had made this...

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/scien ... 64779.html

...it would have cost £300, but would have been much prettier.

If Axminster had made it...it wouldn't have been in stock.

If Karl Holtey had made it...it would have worked beautifully straight out of the box.

If Norris had made it...it wouldn't have been as good as their earlier versions.

If Stanley had made it...there would be a Fat Max sticker somewhere.

If Stanley Sweetheart had made it...it would have been tool number 00.

If Veritas had made it...the handles would hurt your hands.

If Fujikawa had made it...it would have been for softwoods only and would chip on hardwoods.

I wonder if they used the ruler trick (hammer)
In those days it was probably the plank trick.

Mind you, the tool itself could have come in handy for settling arguments about sharpening systems.

Brilliant =D>

This reminds me; some time back I saw a listing for a "neaderthal hand plane" on ebay; it did look pretty authentic as a hand knapped stone and thought about making a joke post - "for the neanderthal who has almost evry hand tool..."

I'm forever digging them things up down the allotment, I just throw them in a big pile there's hundreds of them, mine are a little rougher & look a little newer than the one in the photo.....guess mine were probably copies made in China.
