IDIGBO COATING

Hello All
We are planning the installation of a large number of Idigbo windows at a block of apartments. We are having serious difficulty finding the "correct" coating for the wood. Basically we are looking for a light oak finish. I tried coating some samples at the weekend with Sadolin Ultra Base coat, yet it is still very very tacky (after two days)

Does anyone have experience of coating Idigbo please?

I made and fitted 18 Idigbo windows and finished them with Sikkens Cetol. I had no problems it dried in 2-4 hours

Thanks PAC - sorry to bother you again but Sikkens have numerous Cetol products so which did you use please?

Idigbo is notoriously difficult to paint (yes I can read that you are not actually painting it. Just making the point).

I made a set of French windows and 8-pane window in my last house. I ended up buying some very expensive special primer as anything else just smeared around on it. The end result was excellent, but it was not an easy timber to work with. I'm not sure I'd buy it again.

I used 2 coats of Cetol BL 21 and 1 finish coat of BL 31
I agree with Steve Idigbo does not paint well

Idigbo tends to bleed so do make sure any cut ends of cills etc are fully sealed or staining of brickwork csn happen.

I think sadolin superdec works fine, Im not sure about sikkens ranges.

Idigbo is often used as an oak substitute as it is quite open grained so Im sure a light oak finish will look great.
