I completed on the flat yesterday (Monday). That is to say I got the money from my buyer, the transfer documents were duly signed and exchanged only...only...only my mortgage company (VirginOne) have made a complete pigs ear of the redemption and failed to give my solicitor the redemption figure.

Which meant that the surplus funds I was expecting to be delivered to my VirginOne account couldn't as they were still, correctly, held by my solicitor...which had the knock on effect of not being able to pay credit card bills thus incurring a late payment penalty and a black mark on my credit record, not being able to pay off overdrafts...more interest lost...not being able to deposit the money somewhere else to gain a decent rate of interest...and so on and so on.

The fun part comes when I go on-line periodically and watch my account that seems to lead a magical life as funds come in...then disappear...then come in...then disappear.

Currently they reckon I am overdrawn by £56000.

Mmmm...wonder if I can get some cash out tomorrow to pay the milkman?

The phrase 'piss up' and 'brewery' come to mind.

Never mind, that's what the FSA is there for

Not having much luck, are you ?

What with this and your "harrasment" thread - you must be due for some good luck soon (Do you do the lottery? )

Ooh..not half. All I need do is take the 7 from week before last and glue it together with the 16 from last week..........

of course, the real blether is that until it's resolved I can't buy any more :tool: :tool: :tool:

Hang in there.

We're also trying to move house but we're still at the "what will the surveys reveal?" stage. From your experience, it looks like there could be other pitfalls in store. Oh joy.

Regards.

Haha...been there. T'other house the mortgage company appointed a surveyor whose main experience was houses built on estates. Our house that we'd fallen in love with, together with bowed front walls (horizontally and vertically), zero foundations, damp...you name it.....it was so.o.o far outside his ken that he turned it down!

Luckily the local building society guy had a more 'experienced' surveyor who was more in tune with 350 year old properties and so it was all good news in the end.

Good luck with your move!

PS Just discovered that even though I am hugely in the red, I can still make ad-hoc payments so just transferred a wodge to my other bank account just in case

roger,
what you do is write a nasty letter to your one account manager, and demand payment of all your late fees and charges.

frankly don't worry about being late with your credit card payments,
if you've got one, then when you get it sorted next month, you can
then get on to experian and the others, and add a note to your finance
file, explaining why you have this smudge on your account.

the other thing to do is write to the cc and other companies and explain
in view of the recent fsa complaint about charges, they may well right
them off if you have been a good customer, its worth the effort.

don't forget although they don't seem to think they are these days,
these companies actually work for you, and charge you enough for the
privilege, so make them do their job, they have something called
"duty of care" even in banking, and if they did not do their job properly,
then they have to pay. remember that virgin one is now part of
Royal Bank of Scotland, a manager of which has just been jailed
for nicking over 20 million quid, so they ought to be a little helpful
if they have failed to meet their own standards.

write the letters mate it is worth it, and don't take no for an answer

paul

It will all sort itself out eventually. They (VirginOne) have to formally investigate this, notify the FSA of their findings and also reimburse me for any costs incurred, credit card penalty payments etc. That will happen as part of 'normal business' allegedly. The downside is that I have the added hassle of digging out facts and figures and also the downside of having a negative on my credit history.

Paul - I hear what you say and appreciate that you can file a letter with people like Experian. The major drawback of this is that it doesn't automatically appear on a computerised credit search and any humans involved probably won't be bothered to read it.

You can ask them to remove that I believe.

No you can't, as I understand it. Only put a letter on file. But I will check on the Which forum.

As an aside, just received a ****SUPER ***** OFFER **** from NatWest...special life insurance for the over 50's. Great, I hear you say....only wee problem.....buried in the small print is the fact that if you die within two years of taking out the policy then you only get your premiums back! In other words, you glibly think that you have put aside a little for your nearest and dearest only for them to discover that they get b****r all. Only if you die as a result of an accident! Wonder how many people they will con this way? Financial service....don't you love 'em

roger, don't believe all that the financial services providors say.

if your problems are caused by a banking institution, then
you can have experian make a special note that does not
actually cause you long term problems.

basically a one hit is unlikely to impact on your creditability,
but push like hell, and don't believe all that which say either.

you have to treat these people like the dumb ****s' they truly are.

go for the throat

paul

roger,
let me state the obvious. the files are no all on computer,
and you can access them, and if you buy a sub,
at the moment i understand experian and maybe some
of the others are doing specials which allow you to access
your account for free for a limited time.

but more importantly, having access on a sub to your
account allows you to input data that will actually be read.

check out the offers direct by doing a google search
on credit agencies, and checkout what they offer.

it is a good idea for us all to have subscriptions to at
least one credit agency to ensure that we know what is
going on. with so much fraud going on now
often we only get to know what is going wrong when the
bank gets in touch and it is too late to deal with it.

identity fraud is a major growing crime, and it is our
fault to some extent if we get caught, so shred the statements,
don't let others have access to any of your details, and
when someone phones and asks for details tell them to get
stuffed.

Virgin ...we will get back to you regarding this within three weeks failed..so a gentle prod on the telephone prodded them into a bit of action...still writing to a wrong address however which adds to the fun...can't help thinking that since they got taken over by RBOS that their efficiency and accuracy have taken a turn for the worse...call-centre staff still very pleasant to deal with...not so sure about the back orifice...oops..sorry...back office...probably lack of resources IMHO.

Initial offer of compensation would cover me for loss on interest, charges etc plus an amount to cover the hassle. Suggested the latter wasn't enough and so received a revised offer through the post today..all very formal...if not happy then I can write to the Financial Ombudsman etc etc....but actually I am.

They've redeemed themselves, seem very contrite....and again suspect that their resources are being internally stretched post RBOS. And I can now go and buy a nice little LN bronze jobbie....but which one...hmmmm....decisions...decisions...
