Hydrangea root ball prep

I dug out a mature hydrangea bush and am told the root ball is a burrl type thing. Is this true and if so how do I prep it for drying out/seasoning?

Put it somewhere dry and breezy out of the sun. No prep needed but get the mud off first.

I would pressure wash it first of all.
