The only idea I've come up with (and also been able to find on the net) is a custom cam-clamp sheet for this, so I'm interested if there is a better way.

Let's say I have a small piece of 15mm thick stock, that measures just a few inches by a few inches. If I want to put parallel slots on a piece normally, I'd just use an edge guide and route myself happy. In this instance though, the contact area is very small, so I'd have reservations about using an edge guide due to the greater potential for "wandering".

- I could put some scraps pinned in place around the workpiece to broaden the available area. This means a bespoke setup for each piece though, and as soon as I have a "non standard" stock thickness, I have to made up a new set of scrap.
- I could build myself a set of router skis fixed to a sheet with t-track to act as adjustable clamps. This introduces the potential for running out of true though, as I'd have to align the workpiece to the router skis each time. It's also quite a bulky jig to have.
- I could adapt a mortise jig to take different workpiece sizes and have a removable guide aperture that I could swap out as required. I think this is my favourite option as the single jig could do a lot of roles.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Hot-glue it to a piece of MDF and reference off one side of that.

I'd glue or double sided tape it to a bigger piece, and then run it through the router table to make the slots. Just ensure you stick it parallel to the edge of the larger piece :)

Clamp the surface to be routed flush with the surface of a Workmate. Then rout in any way you see fit.
Or any similar clamping device.
