The title gives away my question really! Saw one for sale on a wall earlier, don't know how much it was or who makes it, assuming it's a Stanley one for the purpose of this question, how much would you normally pay for one?

It's about a No.4 size by the looks and it's known as a Carriage Makers Plane if that helps...

Oh, I'd give you twenty quid for it :)

Your basic No 10 rebate plane has been bringing £50-ish on eBay lately; the somewhat rarer 10&1/2 perhaps double that. The rarer 10&1/4 would probably bring even more (never seen one myself)?

I'd suggest you grab it while you can :)

You need to be careful with these planes because they sometimes suffer from cracks because the sides are cut away. Best to view it first if you can. These types of planes sometimes sell for lots of money because of all the collector nonsense but, personally, I wouldn't pay too much for one.

If you wanted to pay a lot, then it would be better to go for a Lie Nielsen - better materials, better made, thicker blade and cap iron, better design of nickers and a Bedrock frog. It would significantly out-perform the Stanley http://www.lie-nielsen.com/catalog.php?sku=10_25

Cheers

Cheers all. I'll get a look at it on Thursday or Friday I think. I just saw it and thought it was cool, was looking at one ages ago but never bothered with it. Really I just saw it and thought if it's cheap, I'll buy it! But not going to spend a fortune on it, that's for sure (don't have a fortune to spend  )

Plus it's about 12ft up a wall so there's not much too see from where I'm standing, they'll get it down for me though. Or pass me a ladder
