Yes it has - but what do I know? - I'm not a "master craftsman!" ;-)

Lol no way. Looks like a #5 or #6.

That's what I thought

Maybe not Andy, but if there's some literature about giving the specs of the Stanley planes you're the one guy who'll have it :D

It was quite a s***** answer I got back from him, I only asked if he was sure. Hopefully someone doesn't get suckered by it.

You'd expect the son of God to have better feedback.

- Item not as described. Table smaller than stated.

I can't be the only one to have spotted the number 8 on ebay that only measures 18".

I've asked the seller and he said it's definitely a No 8 and it's definitely 18" long.
I've looked elsewhere and they come up as 22" plus, has this one lost a bit?

I have seen (once) a sawn off #8, and very odd it looked too.

This is just a #6 or similar. For real confirmation (should it be needed) check the side
profile of a real #8, especially the taper all the way from the frog to the heel.

A Stanley No.8 should be about...

Oh yeah, about 24" long - unless some silly sod's attacked it with a hacksaw #-o (wasn't me guv - honest).

Cheers, Vann.

Both his recent negative feedbacks are from things being the wrong size. Also notice he didn't post your question Nolegs. Interesting looking rebate plane in his other items though.

I've seen at least one cut down plane before on Ebay and I'm sure they're not uncommon.

A no 8 is 610mm or 24 in and it's also wider than a 4 1/2, 5 1/2, 6 and 7.

That's a No.6.

Here's a comparison chart...

I'd like this for a workshop poster :D

Can't say I'm surprised Paddy, he's obviously not bothered about doing right by his buyers. If I'd been in his position I would have withdrew it and re-advertised telling the truth or selling for parts.

  Now that's plain vandalism
Wow, some people

Just looking at clearer pics of both I've noticed some stanleys have the model number behind the handle others don't was this something they done on older models but not new or vice versa.

It clearly looks like a number 6 as the pic below... might be tempted to provide them with it and see what their response will be.

I bet the owner was half Finnish and had just happened to smash his number 4 when adjusting it with a sledgehammer. Break it in half at the mouth and weld it back together and break it off again and weld it back together again. Now you have a real Finnish smoother. Then sandblaster it without taking it apart and sell on www.huuto.net the famous Finnish auction site.
This isn't racism......I am just so sick and tired of the vandalism on most of the old tools I find here in Finland.........

I questioned the length and he replied saying "I have uploaded another photo which should answer your question, must be a special edition :)"

He has indeed posted the additional picture and it's pretty clear that the plane has been cut short. However, he hasn't posted the question so it is also pretty clear that he doesn't actually lie, but neither does he openly describe his goods. I'll bet that the poor quality photos are not accidental, for the same reason.

Caveat emptor!

Well at least we cann ow see it was a number 8. Now it's the lesser known SWB version

How would E-bay react to this?
The description should read No.8 modified.
