These are Tunisian or Afghan crochet hooks and are used to make rugs with using either loads of yarns or rugs. This one is `15" long and 20mm dia. I have been asked for a 28mm one as well. There are some really strange things out there in the crafting world



I don't use a finish on these things, just a final coat of sealer buffed with shavings. Polish etc tends to come off in use and can harm the fabric or yarn.

They were very much in evidence at our local show, seem to be popular at the moment due to speed at which the work progresses, mind you the cost of yarn etc. makes it an expensive hobby if you go the fancy new yarn or fabric route.

The bin full of pins they had available were all made from dowel stock of differing diameters with end knobs turned to suit. Yours turned from local stock look somewhat more crafty.
