You can rip that saw apart and build yourself a new one if you want to. I had a crummy Einhall one made from pressed steel and the table wasn't even flat. I took the motor off and used this video as a started to build one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ul-7F5plzJw
It did its job and worked perfectly well, I just got fed up with setting the fence as you had to make sure that it was an equal distance from the mitre slot....you don't want any kickback!! Its also worth pointing out that I installed a splitter after this photo was taken to make sure the wood didn't close up on me but to be fair I was only really cutting birch plywood at the time!
They are as safe as the person using them in all fairness, just be careful!
In terms of budget saw, get the basic hobby Axminster one. They are leagues above anything else you will buy under £500 unless its 2nd hand!
