Hi all

Well, I suppose I could have left my home brewed polyester resin until tomorrow but it seemed hard enough so here's the first pen from it:

and a close up of the blank:

Didn't quite get the look I was aiming for but it was great fun.

Did a couple of wood pens today as well. Picture of one only as I'm waiting for the purpleheart in the second pen to stop being brown. Photo not very good for some reason and I don't know what the main wood is...

Both made with the same slimline kit but without the centre band so I could make a thicker pen - the pink one is going to the girl in my class I once said put the ditzy in chick! Should have been pinker really....

Hi Stewart,
You are really getting the hang of producing these pens - the kids will hopefully appreciate the thought and effort that you have put in to them (that's if they don't use them as missiles aimed at next years teacher  )
I really like the dark fittings.

Malc :D

Another couple of little gems :D

The home cast resin worked well,so I suppose (hope) you will be doing some more ?

Andrew

the resin one looks really good stewart, i like the colour although i would have chosen a different colour kit for it, just my opinion, :)
The wooden one look good also, although beware of adding too many bits and pieces to them, taking away from the overall look of the pen.
Is it easy (ish) to make the acrylic blanks, may have a go myself one day.

Luv the idea of designer acrylics.... the wood looks awfully like 'lacewood' [1/4 sawn maple?)

Aha ! I sense an opportunity to learn here .... ( me, I mean.. )

Graham - Is that what 'lacewood' is ?

I got some, and was under the ( misguided obviously ) impression that it was Lacewood or "London Plane" .. which I had in error believed was a 'species of tree .

Excellent ! another little lesson learned ! 8) 8) 8)

Or there is also Ropalla Lacewood. Here are a few photos of different wood types including a couple of 'Lacewoods'
