Now that Christmas is behind, me and SWIMBO are starting to ponder on a suitable destination for our hols this year in September. The drastic drop in the fall of the £ against the euro means that Continental holidays may be far more expensive than a comparable one last year. We've looked at holidays in the UK as an option (Lakes, Western Isles, Cornwall - Alf/LN country :) ) The two thoughts so far are the Red Sea (bit of snorkeling and swimming) or Iceland (fantastic place :D ) We like doing a bit of camping and taking the vehicle (makes for a much more flexible holiday) abroad but options seemed limited this year...so what are others doing for hols in 09 and any good suggestions for options to look at? - Rob

We're thinking about going to Dorset in the caravan with the kids. Never been, but from what i've heard (and watching River Cottage!) it looks a beautiful part of the world.

Cheers

Karl

Red Sea for me again love it 5*all inclusive cheaper than Tenerife great people lovely country and the snorkeling is out of this world

We went to the Red sea 9yrs ago and loved it. Our best holiday. The Red Sea is amazing and it cured the warts on the soles on my feet! :duno:

I loved the heat too, hotter the better for me.

Off to Singapore in Feb for our yearly 3 week stay with our Daughter, Son in Law and Grand Children. In April we're off to Rome for a week.
Then it's the rest of the year at home or on the Narrow Boat. In between all this I'll be in the workshop.

Oh yeah, the Red Sea is fantastic. I haven't been for a few years but used to go on a ragular basis for the diving, as has been said it is out of this world. I always prefered the Sharm El Sheik as it was more untouched to the Hurgada side. Once did the Pyramids by taxi from Sharm took two days! Worth the travel though. Oh and don't lie down on anything metal on the beach.....I did an abandoned floating pontoon! I am hoping to see the inlaws this year back in China,if I stil have a job, but that's another story. :?

Dawlish, I've never been further west than Lyme Regis and we are looking forward to it, we often go camping but have opted for a holiday home on the seafront cliffs this time. :D

Rich.

Don't know about summer but we're off to the Dachstein Mountains to do a bit of skiing in Austria in 2 weeks. Currently about -23C over there, can't wait.

I might get to redo my how quickly does, er, water freeze test

Where in Dorset are you thinking of Karl? You have to remember that Dorset is the home of the 3 Woodkateers

I am going away all inclusive in benidorm, july at the flamingo oasis. I am also hoping to go away the bank holiday at the end of may and august. I will be booking up for camping holidays. They are great! I recommend any campers to have a go at camping at brean sands, somerset! There's a small fairgound and a few arcades, pool tables and for the night...... go to "The Seagull" best entertainment, I've seen anywhere on holiday, free entry!

Further a field, go to cheddar gorge, brean down fort, burnham on sea and weston super mare.

We will be taking the caravan to Barmouth in Wales again. Lovely place, can't wait to get there.

I arrived in Ireland last night for some fly fishing in Waterville, due to extreme winds fishing is off on Currane so I went into town for the papers
a capachino and a cake.... Holy sh*t the coffee and cake cost me £6.50.

As I type this the power went off, so tomorrow must be a better day.

Every thing here is 40% or more expensive than last year. Car hire last year was £60 for 7 days, this year £130 for 5 days.

Paul

P.S. woodworking magazines here cost about £7 each

Thought we might go to New England later in the year,
have to see what the $ does! The family are suggesting jamaica. My niece has a house there. We'll have to see what transpires :? :? :? :?
