Was very tempted and typically now it's gone i'm gutted I didn't go for it. It was a smashing deal.

damn you ANDY, DAMN YOU!

It's easy to see what a good deal this is. Just look how much the drill is on it's own

Hitachi DV18DL 18V Li-Ion Combi Drill (with 2 batts) = £259.99
Hitachi C18DL/L4 Circular Saw Bare 18V (without batts) = £119.99

You're basically getting the Saw and Torch for free PLUS £60 off.

That deal only has 1.5Ah batteries where as the Screwfix deal includes 2 x 3.0Ah

Yes but it's also a completely different drill. You showed the price for the combi-hammer drill which is not part of the Screwfix package.

I suspect the drill is discontinued as it is not on the Hitachi website. They must have decided it didn't look enough like a martian and updated it with the DV18DL. It is probably the same drill as the new one though, just in a different shell.

As far as I can tell its just the same drill without the hammer facility. Which i'd prefer to use corded anyway

If you look on screwfix under circular saws you are lucky to
get any decent battery saw for £200 let alone a li-ion 3amp :)
If they threw in a £20 Blackspur drill it would be a good deal.

Has anybody actually used these saws ?

I've just thrown away my 18v ryobi (it came in a package deal) because it didn't cut. - Even 3mm hardboard was too much for it !

The drill looks like its got the plastic chuck too :( Ho hum

I already own the corded version and am seriously impressed by it. It's only got a 2" depth of cut, but that's enough for board materials. Good DX for a CS. I can't comment on the power of the cordless variety.....yet.....

As for the drills, I have never heard anything bad about them. People tend to prefer Makita.

The ad mentions its masonry drilling capacity, that and the fact its a combi drill surely mean its got hammer on it, otherwise it would just be a drill driver. Has anyone got one? I'm tempted as my four year old 18v nimh hitachi is almost at the end of its life and I believe the batteries are compatible with older gear. Its been a reliable work horse, however I could jump ship now and go for makita. Any thoughts?

Same here ! Although 18v and with a very thin kerf blade the saw seems to only ever cut for a foot or two even in very modest material ! Useless !

The drill is fine with the same batteries though.

Just taken delivery of a Makita 12v trim saw to run from the collection of Makita batteries I already have and well impressed, cuts through 18mm mdf no problem and looks able to do a decent run of it on one battery though haven't tested it fully yet. How come that 12v version is so much better than the 18v Ryobi, puzzling !

Cheers, Paul :D

A foot or two? My Ryobi will usually do about 30 feet of 18mm MDF or Ply
Think you got a duffer.

Regards Tom
