iFixit do a nice set of small bits... ~4mm hex socket on the handle
'Most' small electric and hand drivers have ~6.35 (1/4?) hex socket on the handle?

Is there female to female 'conversion' bit around - let me use a small bit on a larger handle?

Shirley this is a fairly common requirement?
(Or am I missing something?)

Wera, wiha and pbswiss are the kind of companies who may have a range of smaller size hex bits and handles to match. I don't recall seeing an adapter like this, but I have a few Wera 1/4" hex handles in both a general purpose size that would overpower small bits and in a small size that wouldn't because it's short and skinny.

Agreed, horses for courses etc still applies.
Found one on Amazon (I got the sex wrong ... [rephrase?]) I need female at the smaller end.

I was thinking about this only a couple of months back, I've had a few 4mm drive sets in the past and while preferable to the generic crystal case jewellers sets they've generally proved not to be tough enough in use.

In the end I took a punt on some cheapish 1/4" drive sets from AliExpress, though I've seen them in the Amazon and on the bay too. About the price of a pint each for the slotted and Phillips sets, go down to 1.5mm and PH00 respectively if I recall. Early days so far, only used in anger a couple of times, but so far very impressed.

Initially the intent was to use them with my micro Wera anti-static handle but I have used them with a full size CK Classic HD handle. The latter feels a bit odd since it's contrary to your muscle memory but it isn't awkward or unweildy. Haven't tried with a ratchet handle for much the same reason I discounted an adapter, something like this you want direct tactile feedback between screw and hand without any unavoidable wobble.

I find the iFixit 'kits' (various sizes) fair quality and a wide choice. This is mine.

I've got two sets of 'ToolPro' 4mm driver bits with manual handle and an extension in a little box, which I have found to be quite solid and don't 'snap off' or 'bend' when 'used hard'- picked mine up from the local supermarket because I needed a small 6 point 'antitamper' screwdriver to fix a toaster, and liked it that much, got a second set for the glovebox of the car lol (its got 16 different bits in it)

The 'noname' Amazon brand I had previously (in a yellow/black foldout case- so avoid anything that meets that description from there!!!)) was total crap on the other hand- thats why I needed a new set, because the Amazon one snapped the bits head off- undoing a screw set in plastic!!!
:poop:

These are the ones I got, cheap enough for a punt in my book.

Couple of photos below as well, as you can see a Phillips #00 looks out of proportion in a full size handle but it doesn't feel ungainly. You do need to modify your technique, can't simply grasp it as you would a #2, guide tip and screw with thumb and forefinger of one handle and hold the handle lightly in your fingertips of the other.
