i have noticed that the forum has a number of newbies now and i was wondering what if we created a buddy system that is if someone lives near to them they could have first hand experience and be shown how to do things.

what do other forum members think, [but it would mean that everyone would have to put where they lived]

I like the idea. You could give then a basic idea of where someone lives (ie. city name) and only pass on full or more detailed information after contact via Private Message.

Not everyone can afford the cost or time to go through a full time or evening college course and woodworking, especially when machinery and power tools are involved, fast becomes quite a hazardous hobby.

:D Good idea. But not all newbies are new to woodturning or scroll sawing. I've been at both for a number of years.
I'm a forum newbie simply because I now have a bit more time to spend looking at wood working web sites, rather than being new to the hobby.

I think we can all learn something from each other, not just the newbies to the craft/art! This forum has given me lots of useful tips and I've ruined a lot of wood trying them out

Seriously, I think it's a good idea. I'm not sure I can teach much, but I would enjoy trying my hand at turning someday without going to the expense of signing up to a full course...
