Apparently for those of us in the Norn Iron part of the UK these new regs do not apply yet, they will apply from Jan 2006. After that you must either inform building control or get it signed off by an approved electrician. This is not absolute gospel, however, my cousin is a wiggly amp technician and they are working their way through the rules and regs now.

It migh be over there, but it’s taken effect already - from January this year, 2005 in England and Wales. Devolved parliaments have their own rules, but they are basically the same because the basis electrical safety regulation, BS 7671, applies to all parts of the UK regardless.

Part P is the approved document that deals with electrical safety in domestic premises. (England & Wales only)
