Hello All
My name is Dan, I am 29 years old and I'm from Thundersley in Essex. I am a complete beginner to woodworking and to be honest with any hands on skills.
I am a keen metal detectorist, and have been for several years. But like to keep myself busy whilst at home and not at work. I have always wanted to make something from scratch and say "I made that"
I have recently decided to try and make myself a finds cabinet. To display all the items I have found over the years. I gave it ago last week, and butchered an old pine coffee table. I was really pleased with the end result and it showed off my finds wonderfully until... I came across this site and realised that screwing together a couple of bits of wood isn't the way to make a cabinet lol.
I am going to try and learn some skills and set about making a proper cabinet, learn how to join it properly, etc.
I have been reading so many of yours posts on here that I am now completely confused, but I do enjoy learning so looking forward to actually trying out. Like I said I am completely new to all of this. I have loads of silly questions in my head at the moment, but with a lot of reading still to do on here I am sure I will start to learn all the terms you use.
I don't even know how to sharpen a chisel or understand what you guys mean about having a bevel or not lol
I'm yet to get myself some tools, but after reading AndyT's topic on the poundshop chisel I have an idea on what you guys would recommend.
I'm sure you get many newbies and hope your not too sick of stupid questions for advice
Thanks All
