Hello fellow woodys.
i've just joined and haven't found my way round yet.
i'm from the isle of wight and have been into woodwork for five years now.
Sadly it was my dear old dad, on his death bed asking me to make his coffin that got me hooked!!!
Not wanting him to fall out the bottom at the funeral i asked a joiner friend of mine to help me.
i'm now a self employed woodworker with a pretty well kitted out workshop, i really enjoy my new career (thanks dad) i do get advice from my friend still but the more people i talk to, the more i learn. Looking forward to chatting with you all.
regards Ollie

Welcome!

I'd find it hard to build a coffin for a family member, well actually i'd find it hard to build one at all. My first build was a coffee table, end table and a bookshelf all made from pallets. All i had was a block plane, skill saw, hand saw, chisel and hammer. When i got divorced, my ex wanted them, so i must of done something right, well not with the marriage but the table

Got me started on a life time of woodworking.

Welcome to the forum. You are not far from me either although the Solent is a great divide. Been here 40 years and been to the IoW once. Keep meaning to go again.

Look forward to seeing some project pics.

Hi Olly,

Welcome to the asylum that passes for a woodworking forum. I'm not sure how many members are from the Island but I'm not too far away from you across the water in Romsey.

This is a great place to learn about all sorts of wood/tool/machine related topics so don't be afraid to ask.

I second HC's recommendation for Photobucket. It seems a solid reliable service and I have loads of pics on the free section and never lost any.

At the head of the chat section there is this sticky that tells all about posting pics.
