Heavy hoe wanted.

I've got an azada with a wide blade but now need similar but narrower, to keep hacking through some rough ground full of roots, brambles etc.

Any recommendations of similar but heavy quality?

Handle won't be as long (same as a pickaxe) but a mattock works for that sort of thing.

Also the root assassin shovel has a saw edge down both edges of the shovel . For some reason it seams to be out of stock in the uk but well worth searching for . It’s available in standard and mini sizes. It’s my go to for chopping through roots when digging holes for fence posts ..

Try Chillington Hoes, They make a variety of types. I was using a three pronged version yesterday to deal with a network of tree roots.

Yes spotted Chillington ta. Now searching on "mattock" which is nearer the mark than hoe. Fancy the "Bulldog" brand https://bulldoghandtools.co.uk/cata...s/bulldog-pick-end-mattock-handle-5lb-pm5set/ but this is 4 times the weight of the Silverline. Maybe something in between.

I second the mattock, however I prefer one with two blades, at right angles, rather than a blade and spike. That way it can chop roots or define the side of a trench. https://www.screwfix.com/p/roughneck-5lb-mattock-36-/85777. Weight is your friend when using it.

Buy a mattock Jacob and definitely like the one simon linked above with an axe style blade on the other end. A spike is useless and cutting it off unbalances the tool. They are heavy but as said that's part of the design and actually make them easier to use, you're not bashing with it just dropping it and the weight does the rest. You'll find they're also described as grubbers in the construction industry as they're the go to tool for grubbing out roots when digging founds.

I had half a dozen for the lads in my business and still have a couple, wouldn't be without one. Always bought Bulldog as well but mostly because that's what the merchants stocked.

I bought one of these https://www.screwfix.com/p/roughneck-round-head-long-handled-digging-shovel/243kh to clear out the stream that runs through our garden. It is very heavy and, with a judicial sharpening of the blade on the grindstone, it easily slices through roots including bullrush tubas under water and iris' in the banks. Also made quick work of smaller yew hedge roots when I had to dig a trench for the power cable to the workshop.

Another vote for Bellotta. And another vote for a grubbing mattock. I have both, though I hope not to need them anymore.
