Whilst my workshop was effectively mothballed since 2005, my machinery was in a double garage and suffered the effects of damp. My HC 260M Elektra Beckum P/T has been hit hardest and the cylindrical part - the whole drum - where the blade sits has rusted badly. Any experience whether it's an easy part to replace - or any expensive one. It needs doing, but when I had a look I couldn't see how to replace it. Any ideas on here before I ring EB?

Rob - I have a similar P/T which rusted after planing some Giant Redwood.

I gave it a good clean up with WD40 and wire wool. I do not think the drum actually does anything other than hold the blades? So as long as the blades are OK or re sharpened and the drum rotates it should work OK?
Metabo in Southampton sell spares.

Rod

PS - do you have you a friend (Colin H) living in Hampshire - if so I think I might know you?

The danger here I think is whether the rust has got to the bearings. I suggest you check and see if the block spins freely, condensation in bearings usually settles at the bottom of the race and causes local rusting that then produces a rough 'spot' when spun.
If it's just the block, follow Rod's procedure, it worked on my Wadkin.

Roy.

Thanks - Metabo said £68 + vat bit awkward to fit. I will see if I can clean it up - if not any ideas if anyone services/repairs EB kit in the Cambridgeshire area?

Thanks - although I bought Liberon rust remover - it worked a treat. Just need to replace the blades now.

Don't know a Colin H in Hampshire - sorry.

Rob_H - since found out that the person is Rob Horne
Most of the other identity criteria fitted though - he lives in Norfolk and has an EB P/T and is supposed to be a Forum member?

Sorry - Rod
