Hi,

Can anybody advise a haulier to deliver a machine from Belgium to UK?

Ive searched online, but I havent found an obvious solution.

A uSHIP haulier has sent me a price of £720.00....wierdly the company have now sent me an email saying 'when do you want the delivery and whats your budget?'

Ive found a spindle moulder Im interested in buying, a Panhans, of which there are very very few in the UK 2nd hand. They are available in Europe as it is a German make. Clearly though shipping cost influences the total purchase cost.

Maybe they're prepared to be flexible on price, if you're able to be flexible on pick-up and delivery?

Cheers, Vann.

Have you tried the pallet couriers. How big is the machine? You can get a double pallet rate.

The machine is 2200 x 800 x 900 and 900kg

Ill have a look at pallet couriers, I didnt realise they could manage a double pallet size.

Robin at that price you could rent a Luton sized van with a tail lift and do it yourself. The biggest cost would be the ferry and the problems that could arise with the migrants in Calais or Dunkirk.
There are a lot of Belgium, Dutch and German haulage firms that regularly come to the UK and perhaps a combination of one of them and a rented Luton could be a solution.

Arranging transport is easy - the hard part will be loading and unloading.

Do you know if the seller has a forklift, telehandler or Hiab, or could source one locally? It would be considerably more expensive to book a wagon with a Moffet truck or Hiab. Likewise, do you have any such facilities, or know of someone who does?

The price of the shipment will depend on distance, so it would be helpful if you could tell us where it's from and to.

Also, a 900kg 2.2m x .09m machine would be physically too big for a luton's taillift.

Hiring a Luton with a drop tail gate. Isn't that expensive, I hired one to collect my spindle moulder and Startrite Bandsaw.
I own a engine crane and pallet truck, and heavy duty lifting straps. You could probably day hire a pallet truck with a suitable load lifting spec, engine hoist not so so sure. My stuff was nowhere near as heavy as yours.

Also a while back I arranged for a specialist sandblasting cabinet to be imported from America. Can't buy this type of cabinet in the UK or Europe.
I used a freight forwarding service. Who provided a door to door service and took care of all the paperwork, collected cabinet from factory, took to docks, delivered to Liverpool then on to me. Prices vary some quite a lot more than others but if shop around can get a good price and service.
1/2 container, full container load comes into. Not so much interested in weight more size item takes. Also might find has to be legally required to be on an export grade palett because of possible bugs in wood. If don't do that will be impounded at port and warehouse storage costs, while get sorted out will go through roof!

Thanks for the info.

The collection will be from a machine dealer with forklift and we have a forklift at our end.

Location is near Kortrijk Belgium to near Gatwick, Sussex.

I sent a pallet with a machine on to france via national pallets and it cost £120 for them to collect it from my home with a tail lift wagon.

They do a double pallet rate which I think is 2m by 1.2m and 1000kg

Many thanks! Their online quote gives a price for a double pallet of: from £95.80+vat I shall ring thrm tomorrow and grt a confirmed quote. I like that more than £700!

All our Lutons taillifts can handle that size
That suprises me as all the Lutons I've seen have a max. lift capacity of 500kg.
