Hardwood Suppliers?

Hi all,

I'm looking for names of good hardwood suppliers ideally in the north but not essential? I know John Boddy Timber used to do lots of this but they went in to administration earlier this year.

Hello Andrew,
The only name that comes to my mind is British Hardwoods in West Yorkshire, Though they only seem to stock planed timber. I have bought from them before was pleased with the quality.

theres Arbor timber near durham, very friendly. I've only used a couple of times so don't know if prices are any good. Theres a couple of places in Newcastle/gateshead

I used Arbor supplies regularly and I can recommend them. Can't really comment on the prices as I havent used anywhere else but the whole gang who work there are friendly and very knowledgeable and they do have a good range too. Can go in there with a cut list and they will try to fill it as cheaply as they can and often save you some waste. They also have a good supply of off cuts which can work out quite economical for the odd jobs too.

John Boddy are still going strong! I bought a lovely oak floor for them in January. I think they are moving to Richmond though.

i have used British Hardwoods a bit and found them to be good. I need to go and visit next week.

As far as I know, they will do both sawn and planed timber- limited species though.

I buy my timber from Langley Furniture Works http://www.langleyfurnitureworks.co.uk which is near Hexham.

They are predominantly a cabinet making and specialist joinery firm but also have a good stock of locally grown hardwoods for sale which they season themselves. Species available include English oak, ash, sycamore, cherry, elm.

Geoff and John there are extremely helpful and will also machine timber to size if required.
