Hi all
Hope someone can help as I'm at a loss...I've installed a second hard drive in my son's computer. It's seen in BIOS and it also appears in Device Manager but it does not appear in My Computer so I can't format it. Anyone know if there's something obvious I haven't done? I've changed the jumper settings from Cable Select to Slave but this hasn't made any difference.
Looking forward to enlightenment!

Stewart,

Assuming that you have XP you need to used disk administrator to partition the disk before it can be formatted.
You you need more help shout and someone will give more detailed instructions.

Hi Dave
thanks for your reply - how do I find/use disk administrator...yes I am using XP. I tried Ubuntu but found it a bit daunting - will try it again later, I'm sure, but for now I'm sticking to what I sort of know!

Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Computer Management | Disk Management.

You should see your new disk on the right hand side along with your original disk. Your original disk should have the drive letters marked on it. The new one won't have any drive letters.

Right click on the new disk, select Format and take it from there. DON'T format anything on your original disk!

Dave
