Once again using a pulling action with a tool when until recently we always used a pushing action I just love my Japanese saws. Dave
 
After watching that I think I'll give up this hobby and take up something really simple - like coal mining (by hand)!

Sorry if it is Old Hat. It's the first time I'd seen it. I was pointed in the direction by DaveR, late of this parish. I'm no neanderthal, but I was truly impressed by it and thought others might like it too.

a lifetime of skill displayed in that wafer thin veneer - almost unbelievable if I hadn't seen it for myself.
 
Very impressive.
The Victorians did something similar 150 years ago.

Yes, and IIUIC it is all face grain too. There was an article in The Woodworker many, many years ago and it always stuck in my memory. I wouldn't want to make it myself, but very impressive, all the same.
