This jig is to aid in the hand cutting of dovetails. It facilitates perpendicular paring, as well as paring along all scribed lines so that the bases of the pins are all lined up.

I posted a link to the Mk I version of this jig in the General section a little while ago. Go to https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4686 or http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/showthread.php?t=7221

I have a small, but very significant modification to the original DT jig, consequently I thought it best to post this separately.

The modification is to the front and sides fences. In Mk I these were two separate items: slide the timber against the side fence, position the front fence, tighten down. This procedure requires that the front fence is aligned with the scribed line that forms the base of the pins.

In Mk II the two fences have been joined together. Now when you position the one side, you automatically set the other square to it. i.e. when you set the side fence, the front fence is immediately square to this. Just slide the front fence to the scribed line and you are set to go.

Remember, the first step in cutting dovetails is to make certain that the timber is perfectly square.

The first three pictures below will illustrate the construction and use. The fourth picture shows the modification to the original front fence.
