Hi all

I've reached the half way stage of making pens for my final year English class - nice to be nearer the end now than the beginning, and still learning how to do this pen making lark...

My latest four:

From left to right...homecast polyester resin, another homecast resin, a mixuture of mahogany with left over blue crushed velvet and homemade resin, and finally a nice all wood one - yew.

So far I've done fourteen...

...fourteen more to go!

Nicely done Stewart, have you a person in mind for each pen or is it just going to be random?

I have now got a new trimmer so have made a little progress with my pens, not as many or as spectacular as yours.

They're coming along nicely, stewart, but I have to say that the "mixture of mahogany with left over blue crushed velvet and homemade resin" looks like an accident and "left overs" is the over-riding impression I'm left with.

I don't mean to wee on your cornflakes, but the rest are so much better that it really stands out - sorry. :(

They're excellent, I'm really impressed by the home made yellow resin one, and the yew one on the end.

Pen making is something I'ld like to take a crack at a little further down the road.

Thanks for posting them

Really good Stewart,
My favorite two are the forth and seventh from the left. I'm afraid I'm with Ray on the ninth, the colours just don't seem to go together.
I'm truly sorry if that cast a little shadow because all the others are so good. That one stands out.
All in all, a terrific job. =D> =D> =D> =D>

Stewart, First of all let me say I dont know much about making pens, for that matter I dont know much about making anything and John B and Agree would know more about shape and materials than I do. However as these are not to order a little leeway would be in order. Let me say that I would be privaleged to get one of them, so you will have to use your descrition when giveing them outto your friends, sort your pens out as you see them and that way your best mate will get the one you feel he deserves
It has been a great learning curve for you and no doubt you will put it to good use in the future. REgards Boysie.

Thanks for all the comments folks.

Dave - they'll be getting a pen I have either chosen or made deliberately for each of them - the two pink ones are for a couple of girls who like talking and doing little else! Haven't decided which ones to give to others yet.

Argee - and I thought I'd disguised it so well!! Actually there is more than one pen there that is the result of a mistake - the chances are I'll blow up another bit of the orange resin anyway and put it with the resin top and put the mahogany with another bit of mahagony...though I have to say I do quite like it as it is...case of a parent loving all of his children...

Boysie...if there are any spare you're on my list!

Happy turning!

stwart, they all look great, and for the time you have been making them you did a mighty fine job.
but i must agree with ray, in my opinion wood and acrylic just dont mix like that you have shown.
why dont you mix the little wood peices when you mix the acrylic.
i will try and find a link for you.
