hi everyone im new to the forum
I have just bought a Wadkin SP12 panel saw and Wadkin C6 bandsaw both need cleaning up and bandsaw needs repair

the tables on both machines are covered in rust...any tips to clean these up?
I was going to use a wire brush and then wipe over with GT85

is GT85 with PTFE ok to use I read somewhere not to us any thing with silicone in?

any advice would be really helpful im new to this lol

thanks Mark

Use a very coarse wet and dry paper to clean and then and then wipe over with white spirits.

thanks for the replies
once the tables are clear of rust what can i use to help prevent the rust coming back

is there anything used to coat (lubricate) the tables?

GT85 is a pretty effective water dispersant, and I gather it contains flakes of PTFE which are left behind when it dries so it won't have much effect against rust. I use it to clean (not lubricate) bicycle chains. It's actually quite useful for cleaning the frame as well. BUT it is particularly handy if a wasp happens to blunder into the garage. I have yet to find anything that kills a wasp faster than GT85, and at less than £2 a can it's cheaper than insecticide.

Brake cleaner, instant kill on just about anything, no residue either, 99p a can.
