And don't have a great deal of Money, the two in my Range are both Chaiwanese, the SIP 01360 and the Charnwood.

Most of my turning is of the bowl variety (Which is why these fit the bill - rotating head stock).

Has anyone got any other suggestions?

(Currently using a bench mounted Ferm which is exactly the same as the ClarkeCWL12D)

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Dave, I had the Axminster badged version which is somewhat cheaper, whether you get any better quality by paying the extra is difficult to quantify.

You will find them more versatile than your existing Clarke, but I am wondering if the fact that you feel the need for something better will leave you wanting to upgrade again in a short while, if funds are limited have you thought of second user machines? This level of machine are often to be found on the likes of e-bay and may prove a cheaper option as a stop gap upgrade.

Therer have been some real bargains lately. There's a Myford ML8 just about to go and it's at 102 a few others around as well. Worth checking on the flea bay

Of the two, the Charnwood has the bigger bowl capacity, but have a look at this one from Axminster - the Perform CCBL. I believe several members either have one, or started on one.

I posted one for sale recently which belongs to a neighbour.
Its a Nutool version of the ones you looked at, mechanical variable speed in good working order and complete with stand.
Its still in his workshop available for around £50.00. PM me for details if your interested.
regards, beejay

I have the Delta 46-255, And am very pleased with it - bought from Craft Supplies about 5 years ago.

I think its exactly the same as Charnwood W812 @ £250

Axminster's Perform CCL also looks the same @ £168 + delivery

Machine Mart have CWL12D which again looks the same but @ £200, so if you have a MM within spitting distance that looks a good buy.

Thanks to everyone who offered me second user models and some excellent advice. In the end I went for the SIP and got a good deal at the Woodworking Centre in Sywell, Northants at the weekend. Put it all together on Sunday and already had a play. Now I just need to get rid of the old one
