when I started woodworking 3 years ago, from a standing start of complete ignorance of all things wood, I bought a Ryobi combi mitre / table saw.

I've struggled to get it to cut perfectly. I gave up on that last year. I've struggled to get it to cut straight edges, and it wont do that either. Might be fantastic as a site saw (which after all is what is is supposed to be) but I can not get a straight edge to any cut that doesnt need to have a lot more work done to get it flat and smooth.
So, its time to swap it out.

But I have a few big problems as far as buying a better one.
1/ I live in Cyprus, no old hobby machinery available.
2/ Because of this i will have to buy new, which brings me to
3/. I have several 100s spare, but NOT 1,000s.

Anyone have a recommendation of a NEW (smallish) table saw that is suitable for making box sides, at less than a £1000?

Look at Dewalt 745

excellent saw with a fence to die for.
Only downer..... a bit noisy

Lots to choose from on the Axminster site, I had the TS-250M-2 delivered to the Dordogne (south west France) for £35.00, that was the basic saw and extension table not the sliding side cast iron table as I already had that, the larger saws I suspect would incurr a premium on delivery to Cyprus.

Bob having a saw delivered to Cyprus from Axminster sounds like the beginning of a mega thread

nah, i've solved the TNT conundrum. I just give them a totally false address, and when they phone me to arrange delivery i meet them in a petrol station forecourt. Brains baffles computers every time.

Cordy, I cant explain it, but i have thing about dewalt and would not readily buy anything by them.
That fence appears to be a bit like easter, its a movable feast. An australian utube vid shows something pretty clever, but ebay uk shows a completely different thing with not much in its favour.
I've asked my axminster contact for suggestions, purely because they will deliver to me for not very much money at all.

Any one else?

Mike, I kinda did. I skimmed all the replies, answered two and forgot the third (hammer)

That one with the extension table will be over my budget by the time I add delivery to it, but it does look good.

I am really in a quandry as I have never used a good table saw so dont really know if I'm expecting too much from a new one. Can I really get a cut in hardwood that is straight and clean enough to be glued straight away?

The TS-250 is £500.00 the RH extension table is £113.80: https://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-h ... kit-508313 as I said this is without the cast iron sliding table which you may be able to do without until funds permit, I cut Oak up to the saw's maximum capacity as long as you don't push the material through and let the blade do the work it manages fine.

The whole kit is only £769.00 is delivery going to be that much to put you above £1000.00

Or even look at the TS-200, complete kit is £617.00: https://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-h ... w-ax943886 with this option you are giving up depth of cut, but that is about all.

I'm waiting to hear back from axminster.

Not sure i would have room for the extension table. Once I get a ball park figure and if its within budget, then I'll do some serious measuring.

The only reason for recommending the extension table is that it comes with a different fence and rails which is supported both ends and is far superior to the standard offering, does not mean it can't be used with the standard saw, but if you are to go that route there are other options for an upgraded fence, I have the Axminster De Luxe fence on my bandsaw which is one option.
