My rear view mirror has come off in my freelander.

Its a windscreen mounted one. Can anyone recommend the right type of adhesive to put it back?

Cheers

Tim

Tim,

If you go to a car accessory shop they sell adhesive pads specifically for sticking on rear view mirrors. Other adhesives won't do - you need the proper stuff DAMHIKT :)

Cheers

Mine came off and I stuck it back on with super glue, the only trouble is that it is very stiff and gradually moves so when I attempt to re-position it the bloomin thing breaks off again  , so I guess you have to use the proper stuff.

Tim - agree with Paul, you need the special adhesive pads from somewhere like Halfords...not too expensive - Rob

Hi, Tim

Make sure you clean and warm the windscreen before sticking it in place, otherwise it will just drop off after a couple of weeks.

Don't use the Halfords ones their too thick and don't hold.

don#t use the pads, as replacment ones are rubbish.
get yourself along to a windscreen company and ask nicely if they'll stick it on for you.
the is a loctite twin pack for this..glue and activator spray, works great

Tim,

I had exactly the same problem a few years ago. I used Loctite Glass Bond - it is UV activated, so you need to wait for a reasonably sunny day (good job you don't live in Wales or you would be waiting until May!)

Make sure both surfaces are clean and dry etc. Put some glue on the mirror, press it onto the glass and let the sun do its stuff - it cures within a minute or two from memory. Mine hasn't come off since.

Thanks for that - Only some rather vicious fighting in the 13th century saved the day and kept the border a mile away. Sadly it doesn't affect the weather. We have a 35ft deep well here, normally about 8 ft of water in the bottom. Its currently 6ft from the top!

Cheers

A friends mirror came of in her golf...but she had rain sensetive wipers. As it was a company car just took it straight to the VW garage. Ended up with a courtesy car for 2 days as it apparently had to be a special glue of which they had none!!!
