Last week I came across our Council Tree Surgeons cleaning up and area near where I live and was told to take as many logs as I wanted. Most of the wood in the area was Willow which I was not interested in but there were several Sycamore and Beech trees among them. Since I already have quite a lot of wood I decided to take this and put it under my hedge and leave it to spalt. My mode of transport is an old Kangoo Van which I got for this very purpose. I had to make two runs to get all I wanted. They even cut it into manageable log sizes for me.
One of the beech trees was dead on one side and was already spalted. Here are pictures of some of it.

Here is a log showing the half spalting and some other logs I still need to split

Well done Alex, :D well deserved gloat

Looks like some terrific items waiting to come out of that haul.

Always good when such lovely material is rescued from the wood pile.
