Glass in divider over breakfast bar.

I'm making a 4 panel (2x bifold) divider to go between kitchen & living room on top of the breakfast bar, so more than 800mm from the floor
Glass would be 320 wide by 1120 high.
Do I need to use toughened glass in the panels or is standard 6mm annealed OK?

When it comes to glass my gut feeling is the stronger the better, I’ve recently measured up for a new shower enclosure for a family friend- while his missus was taking a shower the rear section of the screen suddenly exploded into thousands of pieces for no reason whatsoever- the glass was 10mm toughened. I’d be looking at laminated glass if possible ( available) as it won’t shatter.

I would go with toughened even if not required by the regs just for peace of mind, 4mm toughened will be fine.

+1 for toughened. Ensure edges enclosed, as that's were its most vulnerable.
If it does let go the pieces are unlikely to cause gashes and lacerations.
Safety first, worry free second.

Toughened/laminated glass ,a little more expensive to buy maybe but for the extra you get extra safety and peace of mind.
