Hi, I'm looking to build a storage bench to keep fabric sofa cushions in throughout the year.

I want to avoid bugs and damp. Any thoughts on things I should be considering e.g. air vents, damp proof lining, pest mesh etc?

Cheers, Tom

I think I would try and find some large plastic boxes with click on lids that are suitable for the cushions etc, as long as the fabric is dry when you pack them away they should be ok, then design your bench around those. Ian
I’d not do that as there will be condensation inside them, but a few vents in the box will help that

Allowing air to circulate will be important, but to be honest I can't see that storing fabric cushions outside the house, whether it be box or shed is going to be a success, maybe okay for the summer though if this is your intention? Im partway through a garden table build and Im trying to think of somthing I can use as feet to hold the end grain legs off the ground, like “Nylon Glydes” but around 50mm in dia and reasonably thick,,my only thoughts were cutting them from a plastic chopping board, any better ideas? This will also be applicable to your box too I expect,,,

Couple of things comes to mind.

How about lining the box with corrugated plastic. Cheap from most DIY sheds..

Also mounting the feet on hard rubber door stops to the base to keep it off the floor?

Cheers James

I saw a video where the chap had upended a table and wound masking tape round the bottom of the legs to form a well, into this he poured epoxy resin which was thin enough to soak into the end grain before setting,,Ive very little experience of epoxy and I wonder if it was a special thin formulation or would any epoxy do if the catalist is kept to the minimum?
