I was routing a groove the other day. Brand new 1/4" cutter. Well it was not new, had it a couple of years, but never used it.

Within seconds, it started to chatter and before I had time to switch off it was poking up through my workpiece. That was a couple of hours wasted.

A bit of examination showed me that the shank is not 1/4", it is 6.2mm, and my collet would not hold it.

So before I chuck it, does anyone use 6mm, rather than 1/4" cutters, and if so, is 6.2mm too tight for your collect?

If you want it, let me know, otherwise it gets binned.

Go on, be a man, dont listen to that other fellah, he's got a whole garden shed full of chinese rejects.

I've seen similar complaints on a yankee forum about this subject.
But they binned theirs
