The freeview box on the telly packed up yesterday, recharged the batteries overnight...still dead. Dug out the box and all the gubbins from the loft just now which contained the receipt...bought on the 31 Oct 06...result :D :D - Rob

The odd thing about free view boxes and the like to me is that the shops round my way sell them, digital radios as well but we're not scheduled to receive a digital signal until 2009 (I'm not able to find a digital signal with my digital tv tuner so I know it's not floating in the ether) although I hear that DAB radios will now work (according to the BBC website). Seems odd that the shops would carry them really unless of course they're all being used out of area. :) And another thing (he said banging the table) I notice that the logo for digital enabled tv s has changed. Once upon a time TV sets with a certain logo were supposed to work post switchover. Now the logo has changed probably meaning that those with the old logo are stuffed.

Cheers Mike

It troubles me that the digital switchover requires co-ordination with electrical retailers. It's a bit like expecting B&Q to promote good woodworking.

I'd be surprised that digital Freeview isn't available to you as coverage is getting pretty good. Which transmitter do you pick up?

It could be that your aerial and/or cable aren't up to scratch as digital signals are very picky.

Roger

Apparently we have a Teignmouth transmitter (GPS: 50.5515,-3.50326) with Freeview switchover start date scheduled for Wednesday 1st April 2009. According to the UKFree.tv site. MY aerial is a reasonably new one was only fitted five years ago or so as part of a major installation. We have signal relay cables into every room - the previous owner had more money than sense I think.

Mr. my freeview box works in Paignton Devon.

I would have thought that it is a case of scanning to get yours to work?

Don't think so, DW. Topology wise I reckon that he might be living in a valley and that the Teignmouth tx is a teensy-weensy one and is the only one that he'll be able to pick up. It's definitely not freeview enabled at the moment.

But then again...what do I know ? :D

It's sort of a valley, except the river at the bottom is the sea :) I'm only about a mile at most from that transmitter but it's not digitally enabled anyway. Still even when I had access to the full range of channels living in London I rarely watched anything other than the 4 land channels I have now, and It's not as though I'm parked in front of the idiots lantern for hours on end anyway.

Is that the valley that comes out at the beach and railway tunnel?

just a little way on from there. I'm halfway up the old hill if that means anything to you.

Mike,

I've got a friend with a place in Shaldon (across the bay from Teignmouth for those who don't know) can't remember the name of the road, but it's the one that is immediately right off the zebra crossing at the end of the bridge. He gets freeview with no problems, right down at sea level, so can't be picking up a different transmitter I would have thought.

Andy

Andy I know the road you mean, not far from here at all - next time you're visiting if you fancy a pint ... I would have thought he was using the same transmitter as me, could he be getting his freeview via satellite dish or cable perhaps?. I definitely can't find a digital signal with my tv perhaps I do need to get the aerial looked at.

Cheers Mike

Mr. I get channel 5 so I assume my freeview box is picking up a digital signal?

Not necessarily, you can get Ch 5 without freeview in some places _ I get a very poor picture but no sound for example. If your freeview box gets the other channels like news 24 Beeb 3 / Beeb 4 then you know you're getting a digital signal.

I might see If I can pinch my mothers freeview box and try it out. She used to live in Paignton but moved to Wellswood recently and bought a digital tv so no longer needs the box though I think she stuck it on a second tv in her bedroom. Ill be annoyed if I borrow her £20 freeview box and it works where my Sony Digital tv doesn't though.

Cheers Mike

Nope, lat time I was down there hid freeview box was plugged straight into the ariel socket in the wall.

I'll give you a shout next time i'm in the neighbourhood!
