Hi all

i've recently bought a few tools and one of them is a Jubilee Lathe. Thing is, I don't have a clue how to use it and certainly dont want to go near it until i've been shown how to.

I'm a joiner and we always have people coming into the workshop collecting lumps of Idigbo, a few bits of Sapele and on occasions, a bit of kiln dried oak.

If I gave you lots of pieces of timber, would you be willing to show me how to use a lathe?

Cheers, Yorkie :)

Yorkie,

I am in Nailsworth, Glos (approx 1hr ish from Cardiff).

There may be someone closer but if you are willing to travel, I don't mind spending a day showing you the basics.

BRgds & happy turning

Simon

:D :D There you go, Yorkie ! :D :D

If i was 'closer' - you could have come and play with mine to your heart's content ... whether you'd have learnt much, is a different matter, other than how to guzzle ridiculous amounts of tea...

But that sounds almost ideal !

Good luck,-- enjoy, and leep us abridged of the progress !
( with piccys :p :D )

I'd be happy to show you for nowt - or for some lessons in joinery - but again I am a bit far away (though closer than the other posters so far)

if you fancy a trip over here - drop me a pm (will need a few weeks to get the workshop put back together first)

There is Crow Valley Woodturning club based in Pontypool where you could get some useful advice.

God that's a dangerous suggestion on an open forum! You'll be inundated - not least by me (though I don't have yards of free wood to hand out!) :)

well i dont mind offering what bits and bobs i get from work. Usually 2 1/2 - 3 inch thick and start from 6 inches long up to atleast a foot, sometimes more.

Would prefer it went to good use than the log fires it all ends up on now!

I plan to use alot of myself as soon as my machines arrive :)

that was directed at yorkie not as a general invite to all and sundry - tho that said i'm always happy to help out people starting out in the spinny things world if i can

( I'd also highlight that while i know what i'm doing with a lathe i'm still in the bowls, platters, clocks etc league - I'm nowhere near as skilled as say cornucopia, boysie, mark hamcock, mark sangar etc etc etc )
