I have just downloaded the book Elementary Woodworking Projects, by Harold R. Wise, http://www.archive.org/details/elementarywoodwo00wise I hope I have put up the link. For no particular reason other than it appeared in a search.

A quick search in the catalogue shows there may be dozens of woodwork related books, as most of the titles are unfamiliar to me I can't tell if there are any real gems out there, but based on what I have found concerning my other interest of military history ref The Great War, I have saved myself hundreds of pounds with a few clicks of the mouse compared to paying specialist dealers prices.

As I have never seen on line books on this forum, I thought I might mention it, but if this old hat, sorry chaps please forgive my granny and egg sucking exercise.

Not the first ever mention, but I agree that it's worth a reminder / mention for newbies. There is an increasing amount of really good stuff out there, which would be almost impossible to find on paper in second hand shops.

As well as texts at the Internet Archive, there are lots of good books digitised by Google and others.

These are my favourite sources -

the Evenfalls Woodworks Library: http://www.evenfallstudios.com/woodworks_library/woodworks_library.html
old catalogues at Rose Antique Tools: http://www.roseantiquetools.com/id220.html
this digest of old manuals from an expanding on-line history of woodworking http://www.woodworkinghistory.com/manuals_1900-before.htm
and the brilliant Toolemera site (explore the museum) http://toolemera.com/index.html

We should really get a sticky for these..

Quite invaluable imo

Great idea and so I have started a sticky where members can download these books/links.

The only thing I have found with sticky's is that members can miss them altogether, so spreading the one maybe the only way we can get a good selection.

Cheers

Thanks Mike.

There's something rather appealing in using a Kindle to read this old stuff! (Even if it's not quite perfect for pdfs, it's pretty damn handy.)

Cheers guys, but the idea was all yours. Let's hope that we get a large library.
