My woodworking room is progressing slowly. I’ve decided on Frake Noir cladding - which is beautiful. I would appreciate any advice on how to protect it -ideally so the wood doesn’t darken any more. It’s a lovely warm chocolate colour at the moment so looking for a clear finish. Having looked through the threads I understand the timbers should be protected before installation. Is that both sides? Any suggestions on type of finish and number of coats required?

Ok six months after I finished it with 1 coat sikkens cetol hls plus followed by two coats of coats of cetol filter 7 plus. All light oak 006 on the advice of their expert. Seemed counter intuitive to put a light tint on dark wood and although on application it did seem to stand on the wood it disappeared on drying and looks better than I expected now. Hope this helps somebody else.
