Poolewood are advertising these on Ebay with a buy it now of £50. Sounds a good price, but what do forum members think or know about this particular chuck?

Hi, Dickm,

I bought one a year ago and have found it ok. There were some posts about chucks this time last year, search for "Chucks and the options".

Regards

Graham

Thanks for that, Graham. I tried searching for the specific Fox chuck before posting, but nothing came up.
However, following your lead,it looks as if the Fox is a bit of a gamble. On the one hand, it sounds as if there are quite a lot of dud ones per batch, on the other, since I'll have to re-thread it anyway, I could correct for run-out at that stage.
Hmmmm
Will think some more!

The one I ordered from Poolewood arrived this morning. Seems perfectly functional to me - it runs okay on my lathe, the scroll turns smoothly & the supplied jaws seem to hold the wood securely enough.

The low price *is* reflected in the finish quality which is adequate, rather than beautifully high-end, and the rather poor translated-from-the-chinese manual. They certainly didn't skimp on the oil when they packed it, though - if you do buy one, it's wise to have some newspaper handy to put it down on when you unwrap it!

It seems to be a good value for money, especially at Poolweoods low price.
