Leaving aside the numerous benefits of owning a PT other than cost saving over buying PAR (which might be planed, but almost NEVER square or straight), then this will depend a lot on the quality of the timber. I can't put a figure on it but my PT knives go a long way between full regrinds, although I do hone them periodically.IME the knots in softwood will knacker a set of blades almost as effectively as an abrasive hardwood with the added disadvantage that they tend to chip rather than simply go blunt.Mark (a very happy Jet 310 owner)
