PS Welcome to the forum!

No No NO

I will not be tempted, I will not be tempted,I will not be tempted,

She's already in two places at once over in the Panto without getting her even more worked up.

Oh well. might as well say my bit.....

Within my first couple of posts I was castigated for mentioning that I was willing to sell on some Oak at cost price. Fair enough - I breached the rules.

And I'm aware that established members are allowed to 'advertise' stuff for sale here, within certain constraints.

Although I've not been around long I think a 'Sales & Wants' section would be a good idea under the same sort of constraints as mentioned and perhaps in a members only area - If that were technically possible.

Some of the 'trade' members might be willing to sell on wood/fittings etc to other non-trade members within their locality. I know I would - if there was anybody close.

Now I am totally confused

I take it that's a no then :!:

did read the rules but it does not say how many posts you need :?:

also I am not trying to sell items , just looking to buy some unloved and unwanted items , as you can see I am new on here and looking for some kit :p

Why can't people sell items here????????
I have bought tools from ebay but never sold anything there. The problem with ebay is some of the items are described incorrectly, they have not been looked after and if anyone has tried, it is difficult to get your money back even if you pay by paypal. I have bought 72 items off ebay and been scammed twice so far.
At least on a site such as this there are genuine woodworkers who if they take time to take part in the forum I would trust buying items off them rather than some annoymous person on ebay or someone purporting to be a private individual but are really a business.
I know there are free classified ads in the woodworking mags but you have to wait for a month for the ad to be published. On Friday I was having a clear out and rather than throw items away I posted a message and at least another forum member has got them.....
It doesn't take a genius to work out if someone was doing this as a business.

I have to agree with David. Although I've had 250 plus successful transactions on Ebay. Buying through a group like this should mean a lower risk of being ripped off as I'm sure none of us would try an palm others off with dodgy equipment.

I'd favour a section for sales & wants if it is not too difficult so set up.

Merry Christmas all

Bob

As a beginner i would favour a "Wanted and for sale" Section too, i have actually bought off this site already but it would be a good idea.

Can you have a Poll on here :?:

Looks like some people would like a for sale / wanted section , for users of this site , NO Trade adds , and used items only

Well what do you think :?:

Hope I don't upset the Mods :?

you can sell and buy on this forum
the rules say that you must be an established member

(5.4) Items For Sale
Once established as a member who contributes to the forum, we will allow private individuals to post that are looking to sell or buy an item. The thread must have FOR SALE in the title. As items move quickly within the forum, a member can bump such a thread back up to the top just once.

Members may not promote their own sales that are on other sites such as eBay

its quite simple , there have to be rules , and there has to be someone to uphold the rules.
i would very much doubt that there would be enough sales and wants
to warrant a specific section
however would support a member only section where sales from private sellers could advertise
i am a member of another forum where there is a sales and wanted section .
and people are always falling out over different things , generally postage , quality , etc
the rules are quite strict on there , but , this doesnt stop members falling out.
as a knee jerk reaction, disappointed members are straight back onto open public forums to air there disappointment {often naming other members }
you have to ask yourself the question . do we really want this on UKW ???

HTH
have a very merry xmas :ho2

I agree - I think it would be a good idea for there to be a section for buying and seeling amongst members, without threads appearing in other sections. Though it does seem reasonable to require members to have made a certain number of contributions before they can actually post there.

Perhaps the forum software would allow such a section, viewable only by members and which automatically allows members with more than x number of posts there to start new threads. Such an option would prevent people making an unintentional faux pas in forum etiquette.

Though on the other hand, it would spoil the forum if it bacame a sort of Exchange and Mart with occasional bits of woodworking involved. I'd happily leave the decision to the mods, who after all need to keep an eye on the long-term direction of the forum, and who also have a lot of experience in making it the excellent place it is.

Is there a warranty?

It's been asked many, many times before, sale and want that is, but there's little need for it. It simply wouldn't justify the extra cost (server wise) and the time taken to moderate another forum. Over the past few years For sale or FTAGH posts have been maybe once or twice a month at most and I don't believe a specific forum would encourage additional traffic.
The rules for posting a FS ad in General WW or in another forum is simply to discourage one off members trying to flog something and then contributing little or nothing to the site. If your post count is a little bit on the low side to qualify posting a FS ad, or indeed a wanted ad PM me or one of the other moderators and I'm sure we can work something out. Don't think it'll be a big problem.
With regard to self posted 'Bay links this is not Loot or someother free ad publication. No problem mentioning eBay when a FS ad is posted but no direct links. Of course the exception is when a member wishes to draw attention to an eBay sale purely for "rubber necking" purposes and further discussion.

Enjoy the holidays,

Noel
