I am new'ish to the forum and I don't understand why the membership has to miss out on a chance to acquire tools or timber that is now surplus to a member, I have worked for many years in wood and metal and gained valuable experience, expertise and am passing on some of that experience to questions being asked here in the forum.

There is a problem where members with a little extra free pocket money start purchasing bulk lots and funding their own requirements by selling the bulk of their unwanted acquisitions or production on the forum rather than an on-line auction house to avoid fees.

It is then very difficult to stop or sort out those individuals or organisations posing as members, several of which we have had in the past, and still have, from using UKW as a no costs to them trading system without providing any financial assistance or physical effort into the running of the forum.

A small step towards helping stop this behaviour was the implementation of FS section qualifying membership posts but there are still those who test the moderating waters trying devious methods to hide their raison d'être and circumvent the system on a fairly regular basis, hence why some postings get challenged or reported by those who have knowledge of events outside UKW..

UKW has "private" members that make a significant portion of their income in on-line and auction house trading, they do occasionally buy and sell their own personal in use workshop tooling via the forum and help out members 'find' a specific need behind the scenes, but they have the integrity to keep their trading exploits outside the Forum Market Place and respect the spirit in which this free to membership facility is provided.

Thank you for the explanation I was not aware of this, when I read the comment that the member should not have advertised, my thought was why should I not be entitled to see what was on offer when I am "giving" my time and experiences to help folk.

CHJ that is a very good explanation of what the rule is about, I can now see where you are coming from. As a retired OAP that collects buys and sells tools as a hobby I am more than happy to respect these rules and I will reframe from listing any items for sale on here in the future. However any tools I have listed on here in the past were listed cheaper on here than other sites to pass the savings on to the purchaser. Profit is not the only thing in life when you get older, helping others however can be rewarding in itself that is what forums are all about.

So now when one of the mods repeats....please can you read the rules before letting rip with both barrels on what's right and wrong.......you know why! The rules have evolved out of real life scenarios....to protect the members and the privileges they enjoy. Lets at least read them before deciding they're valueless!

If there's one thing I hate it's ignorance!

I don't fully agree with that rule, but at least there's some consistency with the removal of an obvious business venture from that board.

oh and we almost got blister back but now I expct he's gone again.
