About a year ago I met a lady who was coming to my usual craft fair and soon after she stopped coming along. She sold bud vases, they were a glass tube recessed into a piece of wood that had been cut from a small branch. She had a spiral silver wire round the tube with a silver charm on and they sold like hot cakes. Whenever I am at a craft fair I make a note of what is selling well on other stalls and then see if i can make it from wood. The idea of the bud vases has been on my mind for a long time.

I finally sat down at my comoputer last week and came up with some designs and have ended up with 14 different ones. In the photo is just a sample and using clay with wood on some of the designs. I must admit, I am quite excited as i know these are going to sell very well at the craft fairs. I have some unfinished ones in the workshop that I feel will be stunning so will post some more after Christmas. I tried doing the spiral wire with the charm but I obviously have the wrong wire. I did however manage to get in touch with the lady who gave me the idea, she said it was very easy and I am going to meet her tomorrow for a demonstration. Between now and March I will make around 100 of these so will be well ready when the first craft fair comes along.

Geoff.

Looks a great idea, could I please ask what you used for the glass spindles.

Take care, all the best for Christmas. :ho2

Thanks for the comments. Chris, the tubes are glass test tubes 25mm x 150mm, they have a rim on the top so ideal for this purpose. I shall be getting some 16mm x 150mm ones after Christmas and will be getting some miniture flowers.

Martin. I was cutting the acorn when I had a thought, I cut the top off and then rounded over the edges on both parts on the router table and then glued them back together and was pleased with the effect.
