Can anyone point me in the direction of some flow chart designing freeware?

Why not use Open Office? There's a drawing package in there that is every bit as good as Visio used to be before Micro$oft got their hands on it! Contains lots of flowcharting symbols, including automatic connectors (that are now impossible to find in MSOffice2007).

Many thanks for the links. Smartdraw is the nicest - but only a 7 day trial so I'll have to get a move on and design the chart!
