I got a curious piece of Hawthorn given to me by the lass who has her horses in the field next door. It has a huge flaw in it... one of the branches was literally growing complete with bark right through to the middle of the trunk. I decided the only thing for it was to leave the bark and chainsaw marks on it and turn it into a wall hanging to give back to her as a thank you for all the wood she's given me.

In case you don't already know Hawthorn cuts absolutely beautifully. It's close grained, pretty hard, and smells of candyfloss machines.

Great use for a very interesting piece of wood.

I am sure she will be very pleased, and more wood will be coming your way.

Take care.

That's lovely Colin and the text is spot on! all of our land is either surrounded by dry stone ***** or massive Hawthorn hedges! never thought of using it for projects but i know where there is quite a large section that was damaged when a pickup tried to jump the hedge (long story but the driver was ok but got a lot of stick for writing off his bosses new 4x4 lol) will get a piece and see how it cuts also curious about the smell as i loved Candyfloss as a kid
Cheers
Brian
