Following my recent accident with the chip extractor I couldn't stay out of the workshop, so wrapped a handkerchief around my little finger and fastened with masking tape (to keep out the dust).

I machined 5 boxes to the traditional pencil box design.

However I do intend to depart from the traditional box at the next stage.

added some decoration at corners also for more corner support. Lids cut to size.

Intend to take a box to art group for a decision on internal compartments for individuals, then sand and polish.

I thought you would have made the mitred end piece and glued it to the lid to make a "secret" lid.

Yes thats a good idea, thanks.

I suppose titebond 3 will adhere to a shellac surface? Otherwise brass screws from below.

Took a box in to show progress and surprise, surprise, another 3 claimed they had requested a box so the order has now gone upto eight.

eight boxes, plus the original now ready for varnishing, decided not to wax because wax would not be compatible with watercolour paper if transferred from fingers.

Thanks again Schultz,

Sorry about the sunlight re photo, got it all week!

Been varnishing again this morning and I have found another use for clamps, hang varnished items on them to dry.

Lids not quite the same.

I also gave my bed headboard another coat of varnish without sanding down this time and it is more shiny, yet the system has always been to sand between coats. (acrylic varnish being used)

Hi,

I use squares of mdf with nails hammered right through to support small things while the varnish is drying, they don't leave a noticeable marks on things, just be care full where you leave them  I put them spiky sides together with an elastic band round them.

Perhaps you could leave them on the floor overnight in the shed for unexspected visitors like rats. (with a poison or virus coated on the nails)

Exciting morning for me, waiting for the varnish to dry, if you know what i mean.

So is watching varnish drying more fun than watching paint dry? :-k

Depends which one your are waiting for.

Think I might do a system restore and then see if I can get I/E on my task bar.

Final picture.

(I have put the 8 + 1 smaller box out in the sun to dry off the varnish)
