I was (still am) contemplating fitting 20mm backset espags to the casements. Now if they were stormproof casements - the "stormproof" bit effectively covers the 7mm or thereabout mushrooms\pins.

How does it work with traditional casements? Are you forced to use surface mount ones? Or cut away a bit of the upright on the inner face of the casement so that the mushrooms can engage with the striker?

Cheers

Hi,
I saw this last night, but could not for the life of me remember the name of one of our suppliers, whose catalogue showed a system on a conventional casement fitted flush. But been to work today, and had a look. We dont use these guys for our espags, only for draughtseals, spirals & door hardware. They are decent suppliers though.

There website doesn't do them justice, but If you get in touch with them they should be able to send you a catalogue showing the systems. In the link I've provided, I'd of guessed you want the "hook type" espags for a conventional casement, with flush keeps.
Hope that helps, and if you need any advice, just post here or PM me. Sim.

Cheers Simon\Steve,

I'd decided on the Maco 20mm Backset RAIL system - has 3 sets of twin mushrooms that work in an opposing fashion - more secure & at <£5 each for a 800mm one can't complain.

I'd pondered on this for ages and Googled it to death. I came across a window supplier that posted full CAD drawings of their take on a traditional casements with espags, on their website. All with dimensions etc. Also another firm shows a photo with the rebate (not stormproof) clearly visible, on their site. Mighty useful - but took ages to find.

The CAD drawings showed the grooves - a little adjustment of the sizes and it looks like it will work. The interesting thing was this firm sets the joinery seal into the casement as opposed to the frame.

Will be mulling things over this evening and doodling to make sure I don't have any issues. I've part way thru the frames and have already got the 3"x2" that will form the basis of the casements - i.e. planted on stops. Just don't need any more stop and scratch my head and wonder about something.

Thanks

Dibs

Glad to hear you are getting on with it. As already said if you need any advice don't hesitate to get in touch. I have done thousands of these pippers!
