Hi Technium,

Only just seen your post. Not sure of your location but if it's of any interest I have an 3 year old Axminster Trade Series AW10BSB2 table saw that I'm planning to get rid of once I find time to blow the dust off etc. It's only had light use and is in good condition. PM me if you are interested.

John

Hi John

Im in Portland Dorset, I notice you live nr Oxford. I used to live there, well Didcot, Blackbird Leys and Abingdon as I grew up there. Could be interested, pm me how much you are wanting, and would you be willing to ship?

thanks for the offer mate if not.

Colin

That's the saw I have - it's pretty good value for the money so I'd recommend it. There are various accessories you can get for it, like extended fence rails and a sliding table kit :)

What about a Startrite Tilt Arbor Saw theres no mention of model but that is fairly local to me. what is a arbor saw, isnt that just a normal table saw?

thanks

It just means that the blade can tilt to do angled cuts, usually up to 45 degrees

Be cautious about which saw you buy. Some of them are single phase (240v) but have a 16 amp plug on them, and some of them are three phase and require a three phase feed of electricity.

FYI the aw10bsb2 is single phase with a 16 amp plug, but you can just chop it off and fit a standard 13 amp plug

I know about the single phase and 3 phase so obviously look for single phase which this saw is but does the 16amp plug matter? doesnt it just work normally on a 240v house?

thanks

Colin

It depends - some saws pull a lot of amps when starting up, which can pop the fuse on a normal house setup. Worth doing a search online to see if other people have successfully converted this saw

ok ive been doing abit or reading about this 16amp thing and maybe an option is to have both 13amp sockets and 16amp sockets in the workshop when built. my dads a sparkie so I assume he will know what to do when I mention this stuff to him.

thanks again for your response.

Oh yes - definitely do that so it gives you the flexibility for future machines. While he's at it, can be pop over and do my garage too? :D

You got to be kidding, its hard enough getting him to replace a faulty light switch let alone anything big like this. The good thing is he has no idea about computers etc so when he needs help we do a trade, I fix his pc and he wires my shed :p

I have a Startrite 175 and it is a great saw. It works perfectly off a 13 amp socket.
If it is an older Startrite make sure that it comes with a mitre fence since there are no aftermarket ones working straight out the box.
Also you should be able to get a used Startrite for much less than £600. I would think £400 to £500 should get you a nice example.
